Cold Saw Blades FAQ

Answers to common questions about our HSS blades, manufacturing, and technical support

Blade Selection

Which cold saw blade is best for cutting stainless steel?

Our M42 cobalt-enriched HSS blades perform exceptionally well on stainless steel thanks to their superior heat and wear resistance. For most applications we recommend blades with 120-160 teeth and a positive rake angle paired with consistent coolant flow.

These blades typically deliver 25-35% longer life than standard HSS when cutting tough alloys. Share your machine model and material thickness with our team for a precise recommendation.

What is the difference between HSS and TCT blades?

HSS blades are more forgiving, cost-effective, and ideal for general purpose cutting in job shops. TCT (tungsten carbide tipped) blades provide longer life in high-volume production or when cutting abrasive materials like stainless or high-tensile steels.

TFI manufactures both types in our UAE facility to exacting standards. The best choice depends on your daily cut volume, material mix, and budget.

How do I determine the correct blade diameter for my cold saw?

Blade diameter is determined by your saw’s specifications — most industrial cold saws accept 250mm to 450mm blades. Always check the machine manual for the maximum and minimum diameters allowed for safe operation.

Using an incorrect size can damage your machine or create dangerous vibration. Send us your saw model number and we will confirm the exact size you need.

Can your blades be used on non-ferrous materials like aluminum?

Yes. We manufacture specialized HSS blades with higher positive rake angles and specific tooth geometry optimized for aluminum and other non-ferrous metals. These blades prevent material buildup and deliver clean, burr-free cuts.

Tell us your alloy type and we can recommend the ideal tooth count and coating for maximum performance.

What tooth count should I choose for thin wall tubing?

For thin wall tubing (1-3 mm), choose a higher tooth count so that at least three teeth are always engaged in the cut. This prevents tooth damage and reduces burr formation.

Our most popular configuration for thin tubing is 220–280 teeth on a 350 mm blade. Our engineers can calculate the perfect specification based on your exact tube dimensions and material.

Performance & Maintenance

How long can I expect a TFI cold saw blade to last?

Under normal conditions our HSS blades deliver between 8,000 and 15,000 clean cuts on mild steel before resharpening. Actual life depends on material, speeds, feeds, and coolant use.

Many customers report even longer performance when following our recommended parameters. We include a detailed usage guide with every blade order.
